18  Sat  Sat & Sun  Central Coast Classic  Brian Bliven  CANCELLED Announcing the Fifth Annual Central Coast Classic- April 18-19 Based on the popularity of this event, additional rooms were reserved this year. Take advantage of this opportunity - while registration is still open! That’s right…five years of the classic. Always something new as to cars, routes, and activities. What won’t change is enjoying our beautiful British cars in the fashion in which they were designed for: a spectacular weekend drive on some of the most scenic roads the central coast has to offer, with (almost) no freeway driving. In true rally fashion the route will not be released in advance, so a navigator is recommended. Starting Gun registration opens at 5pm, Sunday March 15th VERY IMPORTANT: All Participants must have a FEDERALLY ACCEPTED ID. This means CA REAL ID, Current passport, or Military ID to gain base access at Fort Hunter Ligget. This is very important; without these documents you will not be allowed on the base (their rules, not ours). Members will have the option (recommended) to submit vetting forms in advance to expedite the entrance process. We will prescreen and make entry as smooth as possible this year, but If you don’t have proper credentials get them ASAP, it can take some time to get them. You will also need to submit current car registration and proof of insurance. Please remember to stay within the speed limit when driving on base The Drive: Saturday, April 18th: Participants will meet at 10am in Watsonville. Route book, rally plates and box lunches will be distributed. Part of the adventure is that no one is privy to the actual route before the drive and will need to follow the route book to reach the destination. We expect be be rolling 30-45 minutes after the hour. There will be a designated lunch stop along the route for lunch. The actual drive (without lunch break) is approximately 4.5 hours; +/- 1 hour depending on driving style. Sunday, April 19th: Drive will begin after breakfast and will continue as per the route book. The actual drive is approximately three hours. The route will conclude at the Pizza Factory in Carmel Valley for a no-host lunch. Our Rally Champ trophy will be awarded at that time…must be present to win! The Weather: National Weather Service archives indicates temperatures in the mid to high 70's and low chance of rain, on average. Weather can range from very hot to foggy/windy cold. However, due to deposits and pre-payments, the rally runs rain or shine with no refunds. The Accommodations: We have reserved the Hacienda at Fort Hunter Liggett, which is an active military fort instillation. This historical landmark was designed by Julia Morgan for William Randolph Hearst and served as his hunting lodge. Guests have included Clark Gable, Dick Powell, Will Rogers, Leslie Howard, Jean Harlow, Spencer Tracy, Errol Flynn, Herbert Hoover Marion Davies. There is a rustic and spacious full bar and private dining room. Drivers are encouraged to bring their own adult beverages, if so inclined. We also have access to rooms at the Hunter-Liggett Army hotel; a short walk across a parking lot to the Hacienda. All meals and extra activities will be at the Hacienda. The Menu: We will be using the Hacienda staff for a full dinner and breakfast. Dinner will be the choice of two entrees, fresh seasonal vegetables, salad, coffee and dessert. For breakfast drivers select between scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon, toast, English muffins, juice, milk, tea, coffee, fruit and vegetarian options. Saturday’s box lunches will be prepared by Whole Foods. Drivers and navigators will be able to pre-select sandwich including vegetarian option, salad and drink preference shortly after registration. Additionally, all lunches come with fruit and cookie. The Cost: The basic combined rate for driver and navigator is $255 which includes all rally items, three meals and the basic Cowboy room. All rooms at the Hacienda come with cable TV, telephones, coffee makers and mini-fridges. Please read the below listed room details carefully; when registering you will be prompted to select order of room preference. The Rooms: 1. Cowboy Rooms- basic rate Five rooms with one queen bed each, one room with 2 twin beds. Centrally located shared bathroom and shower. 2. Garden Rooms- an additional $25 to basic rate Two rooms available. Each with queen bed, private bathroom. 3. Tower Rooms- an additional $40 to basic rate Four rooms available. Each with a queen bed and full size sofa bed with private bathroom. 4. Mini-suite-an additional $30 to basic rate One room available, queen bed and a separate room with full sofa bed, private bathroom. 5. Army Rooms - an additional $90 to basic rate A short walk across the rear parking lot is the Army hotel. This is a clean and comfortable facility, similar to La Quinta or Quality Inn. Rooms include a queen bed, kitchenette, refrigerator, coffee maker, flat panel television and DVD player. Dining remains the same as Hacienda guests. Based on the popularity of this event, we have reserved 10 rooms in advance . The Registration: Room selection will be based on order of received registration. Registration opens at 5pm, Saturday March 15th. Registrations will not be accepted before this day and time. The "starting gun" method of registration gives all members a fair chance at participation, given the limited amount of Hacienda rooms available. On your email, please include: • Room preferences from 1 to 4 based on personal preference (1 being highest preference) • Name of driver and navigator, along with year, make and model of rally car • Confirmation of Real ID for base entry Registration will be sent to: jebbage@sbcglobal.net Within 48 hours registrants will receive an email of room confirmation and total cost. Drivers will then have 48 hours to send payment via PayPal to the above address. You must note this as “gift” to avoid PayPal fees. If payment is not received within 48 hours you will lose your selected room and will have the option to take the next available room as per your preference. Subsequently, the next driver who requested the forfeited room will be contacted and offered the reservation. Please email Jeff Ebbage before the opening of registration if clarification is needed. A couple more things: While we have reserved the entire Hacienda and the dining room, the bar is open to military personnel. Fort Hunter Liggett is a training facility, so the bar can be empty or full depending on training schedule. While we usually do not interact too much with military personnel, be prepared to have a conversation with the few curious soldiers who protect our country and might approach you.
