14  Sat  8:30am  Second Harvest Food Bank volunteering  Rye & Kristin Livingston  Hello Triumph Travelers! Thank you for your interest and willingness to do a drive and volunteer food sort to Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz! About: The first food bank in California and the second oldest food bank in the nation, Second Harvest was founded in 1972 by Founder and CEO Willy Elliot McCrea. Second Harvest is in the midst of its annual Holiday Food Drive, which, in addition to grants revenue, provides most of the funding that sustains the organization for the year. Due to efficiencies, Second Harvest provides 4 healthy meals for every $1 donated! What We're Doing: On the second Saturday sort of each month, they need 15 volunteers needed to pack and sort food. For those interested, we'll also receive a tour of the warehouse and operations - as an organization that serves 55,000 people each month and sources over 8 million pounds of food each year, it's big! Our activities could range from bar coding donations, sorting donated canned goods, sorting donated produce, or packaging food bags for individuals and partner agencies to pick up. Please wear warm clothes and comfortable, warm shoes, we'll be working on a cement floor. Logistics: We'll meet at 8:30 at Peet's Coffee, 1110 Blossom Hill Road, and will drive over together, sporty cars if weather permits, enclosed cars if it's raining. Our tour and volunteer shift will go from 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. Afterwards we'll drive over to Ella's at the Airport for lunch. Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz is at: 800 Ohlone Parkway, Watsonville, CA 95076. Looking forward to working with you all to help sort and package healthy food for hungry families in Santa Cruz County, where 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults face the reality of hunger. Thanks and best, Kristin
